Avatar 2 will supposedly begin filming in August, says James Cameron

It feels like a lifetime ago that the original Avatar first hit theaters and was the talk of the movie industry. Considering the sequel-itis standards that have sunk their claws into Hollywood here in 2017, yes seven years is a long time. But apparently, for all the time that Avatar has been out of the limelight, James Cameron is still hard at work trying to get Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 (holy crap, there are actually going to be five movies) out the door and into production. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Cameron revealed that he is getting ready to start filming the second movie this August.

When asked what the hold up has been for Avatar 2 (and boy have there been hold ups), Cameron said:

"The thing is, my focus isn’t on Avatar 2. My focus is on Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 equally. That’s exactly how I’m approaching it. They’ve all been developed equally. I’ve just finished the script to Avatar 5. I’m now starting the process of active prep. I’ll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August, so I’m booked in production every day between now and then. Our volume is up and running, and everything is designed, and so we’re going full-guns right now. I feel like I’ve been let out of jail, because I’ve been in the writing cave for the last two years. I’m actually enjoying life. I don’t enjoy writing. I wouldn’t wish writing on a dog."

So, herein lies the problem. When you're trying to make four movies at the same time, each one is going to get slowed down. This would explain the delay, after delay, after delay that has been going on for about a half decade now. And with this August shooting window, that could serve credence to the possibility that the film could miss its 2018 release date.

The real question I have, is will it even be worth it? IMO, I'm content with the original movie as is after so many years, that if these four (Holy crap, four) sequels aren't any good, James Cameron will have wasted a lot of time and money for nothing.
