If you love Batman or are a child of the 1990s, you're more than aware of one of the greatest cartoons to ever grace your small 90s era TV. Who could forget the series that gave birth to Joker's iconic girlfriend, Harley Quinn? Who could forget the voices of the legendary Kevin Conroy as The Dark Knight and Mark Hamill as The Clown Prince of Crime? Batman: The Animated Series defined an era of television and Batman with memorable episodes that often didn't sugar coat the Batman mythos to suit their audience.
The show spawned an animated feature film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and inspired some incredible video games like the Batman Arkham series. Despite having a rabid fan following, it's not exactly easy to get your hands on high-quality copies of every episode. Sure, there's a DVD set but fans have been craving a Blu-ray release for quite some time and now they're going to finally get it!
At New York Comic-Con, a panel filled with the show's creators and cast gathered around to answer fan questions and gave away a box set of the DVDs. Gary Miereanu, a Warner Bros. representative, noted that this will be the last time they giveaway a set of DVDs for the show as they are remastering the series for a Blu-ray release scheduled for later in 2018.
There's no word as to if there'll be a 4K version or if they'll be splitting them up into "volumes" like they did with the DVDs. As for when we'll see this release, our guess would be around San Diego Comic-Con in July or towards September 2018 as that's when the show first aired in 1992.
Batman: The Animated Series consists of 85 episodes total and will likely be accompanied by special features in the Blu-ray release. Batman's next appearance will be in a live-action adaptation of the Justice League starring Ben Affleck as the caped crusader.
Justice League will release on November 17th, click here for a new trailer.
