Battleborn goes gold, Gearbox tells us what’s next

About two days ago Gearbox announced that their new big game, Battleborn, has gone gold and with that Gearbox and 2K has now told the public about what they want to do next, and from the looks of it they are aiming high.

Gearbox already revealed that there will be 25 uniqe heroes suitable for almost 50 billion playstyles and there will also be various singleplayer and multiplayer modes. Now Gearbox tells us their masterplan for Battleborn.

There will be both free and premium updates. The free updates includes 5 new heroes that will be released over the weeks and months after the games release, making the complete roster of heroes a whopping 30, and these heroes will be free for ALL platforms. They have only just started the development of the new characters and Alani, a warrior healer, is the only one that the have a finished concept for.

Gearbox will also put together an entire season of free, new content for Battleborn, including new maps, new game modes, new features, and balance updates and such. Gamers will get more details when the game launches.

Additionally to all the free content there will be paid premium content as well. Gearbox says "you can expect five new premium add-on packs that will allow you to command your heroes in all-new Story Operations. These will be rich, character-driven experiences that will provide a deeper story behind the game’s new heroes". So there will be extra content for both lovers of singleplayer and multiplayer experiences.

The paid DLC packs will cost 4.99$ each or 19.99$ for the season pass. They will inculde Story Operations, Skins, and Taunts.

It is clear that Gearbox has great plans for Battleborn and they have even written two core principles about the the maintenance of the game.

1.Battleborn is a full-featured, AAA video game. As such,  solo players, cooperative players (including couch co-op) and competitive players are all each very important to the Battleborn community and shall all be supported by developers who are themselves passionate about each of these styles of play

2.Post-launch support will be robust and will allow for regular balance adjustments and regular, free new content to be added that is designed to enhance and enrich the game and the community. Gearbox Software will adapt with the Battleborn community over time in support of the game, sometimes leading and sometimes being led by the community of players.

Battleborn comes out May 3 for Windows, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. That means Battleborn releases less than a month before it's biggest competition, Blizzard's Overwatch.
