Next month, Battlefield 1 will be getting hit with its first expansion, None Shall Pass, which will bring four maps, one new mode, new vehicles, a new faction and more. Before this expansion releases, Battlefield 1 will be getting an update called the Winter Update.

The Winter Update isn't tied to the expansion, but it might be tied to the changes housed on the Community Test Environment (CTE). About a week ago, the CTE saw a pretty big update to test out a number of new features.
The changes are fairly extensive but feature a new item to collect: Ribbons. There are 20 different ribbons to collect and each one will give you 500XP. According to details, "the ribbons are designed to promote good team play and playing the objective."
In addition to ribbons, max class ranks were increased, unlockable Elite Codices were added (which give players Elite Codex and 25000 bonus XP per 500 kills per primary weapons), and a feature to vote on the next map was added.
