As a follow-up to the E3-announced Rare Replay Collection, Rare has commissioned limited edition vinyl prints of the Battletoads soundtrack. Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, the 180-gram LP containing 19 tracks from the hard-as-nails beat-'em-up will be limited to just 300 copies.
Brooklyn artist Nick Gazin was consulted for the album's cover art. The disc itself, containing 19 tracks, is done up in a "Dark Queen" gatefold variant and housed in a unique "Sound Chip" jacket.
Of course, Battletoads is just one of the 30 classics within the Rare Replay Collection. To celebrate the lot, Rare has also created 400 hand-signed and hand-numbered prints honoring the studio's 30th anniversary. Created in collaboration with iam8bit, a known celebrator of games media, the print features Banjo Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark and plenty more.
Evidently, Capcom has caught the vinyl bug as well. Not content with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate weapon replicas and wearable Mega Man helmets alone, the studio is now bringing the Street Fighter 2 soundtrack to striking colored vinyl. The disc will contain both the CPS1 and CPS2 OSTs, and spearhead production company BraveWave’s Generation series. Original composer Yoko Shimomura will also be consulted for the project.
