Hey, turns out we were actually right; Bethesda's new game will be Wolfenstein. Technically, its announced name is Wolfenstein: The New Order, and it's a "what if?" scenario that has you play as American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz in a universe in which the Nazis won World War II.
The new entry in the iconic first-person shooter series is set in 1960, after the Nazis have already taken over the world. As B.J. Blazkowicz you are tasked with launching an "impossible counter-offensive." This means infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling "legions of enemies." To aid you, you will take control of "super weapons" that Nazis are currently in possession of.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, the ZeniMax-owned studio founded by former members of Starbreeze (The Darkness, Chronicles of Riddick). It is expected to release during Q4 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and "next-gen consoles." Bethesda's VP of Marketing Pete Hines later said the company is "intentionally" being cryptic about the next-gen platforms. Does this mean a Wii U version is planned or that some sort of exclusivity is planned for the PS4 or next Xbox? We'll probably find out more at E3.
Either way, we're finally excited to see a new Wolfenstein game. Below is the official announcement trailer.
