BioShock developer ‘Irrational Games’ changes studio name, teases new games

That was unexpected

The developers behind BioShock, Irrational Games, has been rather quiet lately when it comes to just about everything, but today they suddenly announced a complete name change!

It was earlier today that Irrational Games announced their surprise name change on Twitter, now the studio known for BioShock goes under the name of Ghost Story. The fact that something big would happen to Irrational Games soon was not that big of a surprise considering that their latest game, BioShock Infinite, came out back in 2013, and it seems like the big change was to practically create a whole new studio.

As of now, Ghost Story consists of twelve former Irrational Games developers and can be seen as a spiritual successor to Irrational. Get it, ghost, spirit, mind = blown. On their site, Ghost Story says their goal is to keep on making quality games that will have a "strong appeal" to fans of BioShock and BioShock Infinite and that their games will be as challenging as their story is rich.

"Our mission is simple: to create immersive, story-driven games for people who love games that ask something of them. While we believe our new games will have strong appeal to fans of BioShock, our new focus allows us to craft experiences where the gameplay is as challenging as the stories."

It seems like fans of BioShock and System Shock 2 can expect whatever comes from Ghost Story to be in the similar vein as the BioShock games fans have come to love. That is all Ghost Story is ready to share for the moment, they are simply "not yet ready to share any more on our new game". Though that statement at least reveals that a new game is in progress.
