BioWare talks Mass Effect Andromeda’s narrative and lightweight E3 presence

Mass Effect: Andromeda is going to be leaving most everything we know from Commander Shepard's story behind in order to deliver an all new adventure in the galaxy closest to our own. The thing is, that adventure has been a little too much in the dark for many a fans' liking, especially after the recent trailer (seen above) from the E3 2016 EA Play conference.

BioWare studio boss Aaryon Flynn and Mass Effect creative Mac Walters caught up with Eurogamer to talk about Andromeda's narrative and press presence from last week.

On Andromeda's narrative:

Mass Effect: Andromeda will not factor in the decision you made on your journey with Commander Shepard. "We acknowledged it in the endings of Mass Effect 3 and I think that's where we want to leave it for now," said studio boss Aaryon Flynn, "We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it's a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended."

Mass Effect: Andromeda does chronologically take place after Mass Effect 3's ending, but it's not necessarily certain that the inhabitants within the ark vessels even know about what happened in the Milky Way Galaxy. Especially when you think about "how long it takes to travel between galaxies" according to Mac Walters.

On E3 2016 presence:

There weren't many fans who were truly satisfied with Andromeda's E3 trailer, while it did give glimpses into a Mass Effect game that clearly looks like an upgrade over any of the previous games, they were far too brief to give us any real insight.

Flynn said:

"There's definitely more stuff we could have shown or talked about…But now we're shipping next spring, the time to really blast all that out there is after the other games come out. We'll be there then to have a great big reveal and release all the details."

By all accounts, it sounds like Mass Effect: Andromeda is going quiet until November, around the time of N7 Day, so we can expect to hear more then.
