Are you insanely good at Overwatch? Blizzard might have a job for you. Among the recent announcements about the new modern shooter was the formation of an all-new professional eSports league devoted entirely to Overwatch simply named Overwatch League. The inaugural season will begin sometime next year and will host a talent combine ahead of its start.
The combine will invite eligible players that have already distinguished themselves in competition to try out for teams that will represent different major cities across a variety of regions. The combine will test players in a variety of areas and will dictate which players get picked up during the signing period. If you are one of the players that do get picked up by a team, you will get a guaranteed contract that includes a baseline minimum salary and benefits package.
Mike Morhaime, CEO, and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment had this to say:
"The Overwatch League represents not only the pinnacle of Overwatch competition, but also a genuine career opportunity for the most skilled Overwatch players. We're building a league that's accessible to players and fans, sustainable, and exciting for everyone involved."
There is currently no official start date set in place for the Overwatch League, but Blizzard says those details, and those about the teams themselves will be shared in the coming months.
