Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel may one day release for PS4, Xbox One

Gearbox Software and 2K Australia may bring Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to new-gen systems if consumer response favors the port, according to an interview with Gamereactor TV.

Gearbox head Randy Pitchford announced the studio’s platform decision back in April, saying that a new-gen release was outweighed by the massive install base of PS3 and Xbox 360. Abandoning fans of the series who’ve yet to purchase a PS4 or Xbox One was also “something that we couldn’t feel good about,” Pitchford added.

Tony Lawrence, head of 2K Australia, The Pre-Sequel’s primary developer, is open to the idea of a new-gen port. “If fans say, ‘Hey, we’d really like this on a next-gen console,’ well, we’ll think about that,” he said.

“We’ll see how people react to the game, how much fun they have and whether or not everybody moves on to the next gen fully next year,” franchise director Matt Armstrong added, also agreeing with Pitchford’s sentiments of betraying previous-gen consumers.
