There were an impressive group of actors and actresses in the running for Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse. But now the narrowing has ended, and Bryan Singer has announced who will be playing the new, younger versions of X-Men greats Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops.
While X-Men: Days of Future Past saw the original X-Men cast and the First Class cast merge in a time traveling story, there's no room for the old cast in the upcoming sequel, which will take place in the 1980s. So goodbye to James Marsden, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Bryan Singer took to Twitter to announce that Alexandra Shipp (House of Anubis) will play Storm, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones) will play Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan (Mud) will play Cyclops.
I think they are all really strong choices, and can't wait to see the new versions on-screen.
X-Men: Apocalypse stars Oscar Isaac as the film's main villain, and Singer is back as director. Other returning actors listed are Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters and Michael Fassbender. It is rumored that Hugh Jackman will also be in the film as Wolverine, and who knows if Channing Tatum will make an appearance as Gambit.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
