Bungie promises changes to Destiny’s Cryptarch

That Cryptarch, he really is a son of a bi*ch. Standing as the gatekeeper between you and that treasured Legendary or Exotic piece of gear, the Cryptarch often likes to turn your hard-earned loot into, well, crap. And he loves every second of it — that stupid smug smile of his as he watches your heart break. It never gets old for him.

At first I thought it was just me having bad luck. Then I learned the Cryptarch likes to troll everybody. It wasn't always like that though.

"Long ago during development, the Cryptarch decoded engrams of a given color into gear of that same color. Early in 2014 we added randomness, both for better and worse, to the decrypting process. The result was that end-of-session engram decoding got a lot more exciting and the Cryptarch himself suddenly acquired a personality. Both of these experiences were positive additions to the game," Bungie explained in today's dev notes.

Really? Getting the Legendary engram you farmed hours for turned into an Uncommon piece of crap is a positive addition?

There's no denying the entire loot system in Destiny needs to be overhauled, and it starts with the Cryptarch. The good news is that Bungie is aware — I think.

"But we didn't adequately communicate the potential random outcomes of decryption. Players see what looks like the familiar metaphor of item identification, while the Cryptarch thinks he's opening a grab bag of loot. Rage sharding of blues ensues. Expect to see changes to address this soon," Bungie promised.

What gets me, though, is how vague Bungie is being. What kind of changes are they planning? Are they completely removing the randomness of the decoding? Are they simply making the decoding more forgiving? Or are they keeping it the exact same, but adding some sort of notification to at least warn you how big of a di*k the Cryptarch is? I appreciate that Bungie addressed the Cryptarch in today's notes — especially in light of "fixing" the loot cave — but the vagueness in which they discuss the Cryptarch leaves me a bit skeptical.
