Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War officially revealed

After months of rumors, leaks, and teases, we finally have a proper reveal for Call of Duty 2020. It is, as expected, titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and it is of course, inspired by real events.

While the first Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010 used the Cold War as a backdrop, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War looks to dive deeper into the setting. The teaser trailer uses real-world archival footage narrated by KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov to talk about how to destroy a nation using tactics like demoralization. Despite being decades old, it seems to be drawing extreme parallels to our current times with the trailer imploring viewers to know their history.

It seems that the game will follow a Soviet spy codenamed Perseus who infiltrated western intelligence. No one knows what happened to them so it seems the story will likely try to fill in that gap in history. Whether or not Perseus is a protagonist or antagonist is a mystery at this point.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have a proper unveiling with a first look at the game itself on August 26th in Verdansk. Verdansk is the setting of Call of Duty: Warzone, for the out of the loop. Whatever happens will also likely end up on YouTube. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software after Sledgehammer Games was removed from their Call of Duty project. Treyarch was slated to release their Call of Duty game next year but has since been pushed up to 2020 to fill the gap.
