Females have made tremendous strides in the United States Armed Forces, but one field that has been particularly tough to crack has been gaming — particularly the biggest military-esque game of all, Call of Duty.
To date, Call of Duty players could only play online as male soldiers, a somewhat archaic approach considering how far we've come since the franchise's inception in 2003. I mean, you've been able to save the universe as FemShep for some time now.
Recognizing this old-school mentality, Activision and Infinity Ward have set out to allow the creation of female soldiers in Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer. As part of the game's customization system, which allows you to finally personalize your soldier's look, you can choose to play as a female character. In addition to gender, you'll be able to select the character's body type, head, and gear in addition to perks and weapons.
"In Ghosts you create not just a class, but a soldier," Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin said. Can we all get a collective "finally"?
