Carrie Fisher will be in Star Wars Episode 9, says brother Todd Fisher

Well, it looks like Carrie Fisher will not only appear throughout Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, but she will also appear in the currently untitled, Episode IX. After the higher ups at Disney and Lucasfilm met to discuss how to proceed, it seems they have reached out to Fisher's brother, Todd, and daughter, Billie Lourd. Todd Fisher told the New York Daily News that the two have agreed to grant the studio the rights to have General Leia appear in the final film.

He said:

"Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don't.

She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue."

Lucasfilm will not digitally recreate Fisher for Episode IX, but will instead use existing and recently compiled footage to accomplish the task.

Carrie Fisher tragically passed away back in December at the age of 60, after being hospitalized for cardiac arrest. Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi releases in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
