Studio MDHR’s Cuphead, the cartoony sidescroller seen at Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference, will be one of a trilogy, complete with expansions and DLC.
Developers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer told Kill Screen that they want Cuphead to play out similarly to the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, in which unlocking a new character—say, Knuckles—completely rewrites how you play the game. With that in mind, they’re aiming to create three unique Cuphead experiences.
The two also revealed that the 1930’s-esque game has been in development since 2010, well before Microsoft snagged the IP for their indie umbrella.
