Sega’s recent teases via cryptic news posts on their other games’ Steam Forums have finally been revealed by the game publisher. As suspected, it’s indeed about Atlus 2011 puzzle-platformer Catherine which has gotten a surprise immediate release for PC. Catherine Classic is available right now on Steam for only $19.99!
Just last week, we were greeted with a quirky ARG by Sega, after seeing multiple mysterious news posts on other Sega titles’ Steam Forums like Bayonetta, Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Yakuza. Each of them had one thing in common. A picture of sheep and the animal’s iconic “baaa” scream.
The gaming community quickly solved this riddle as something related to a Catherine PC version, since that game has a lot sheep imagery, but it wasn’t really clear which version of Catherine was being teased. After all, an updated and enhanced remaster with Catherine Full Body is set to come out sometime this year for the PlayStation 4.
After an updated ESRB rating for the original Catherine which included the PC, signs were pointing at the old version being prepared for a PC release. Not really what PC players would have liked optimally but it’s still nice to see a previously inaccessible game making its way to their gaming platform of choice.
The guesswork is over now, after Sega openly announced Catherine Classic and immediately launched the game on PC. You can purchase the game right now for only $19.99. A great budget price-point that is at least easing the pain of not getting the remaster Catherine Full Body.
Catherine Classic is still offering the best way to play the game in the West for the time being. PC features include following:
- Japanese Voice Over available for the first time in the West
- 4K resolutions
- Unlocked framerate
- Customizable keyboard and mouse controls
Furthermore, for a limited time only buyers of Catherine Classic will also receive wallpapers, avatars and a sampler of the game’s soundtrack.
