CD Projekt RED just got $7 million in government funding to research ‘Seamless Multiplayer’ and ‘City Creation’, presumably for Cyberpunk 2077

The Polish government just gave The Witcher developer, CD Projekt RED the largest share of a research grant dedicated to driving game development in the nation. It was known that the company had applied for these grants as early as September, and it looks like everything has gone through. CD Projekt RED submitted four proposals, seemingly on behalf of their current project, Cyberpunk 2077, and they are as follows.

City Creation
Comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”, playable in real-time, cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation and taking into account the development of innovative processes and tools supporting the creation of high-quality open world games.
Seamless Multiplayer
Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.
Cinematic Feel
Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools.
Animation Excellence
Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.
The company also submitted an additional proposal for their DRM-free digital games distribution platform, GOG.com for creating "generic support cross-platform multiplayer gaming software for popular consoles and operating systems." This appears to read something to the effect of an app that will allow console and PC players to play games with and/or against each other, something that gamers have been clamoring for.
As for the four main proposals, the two that obviously stand out are the City Creation and Seamless Multiplayer ones. While we already know about CD Projekt RED's ability to create massively vibrant cities as evidenced from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Seamless Multiplayer is something that would be a new venture for the company.
Obviously, we still don't know exactly when to expect anything new on Cyberpunk 2077, though a September 2017 release window was rumored. But we can expect the game to be 'really, really, really f***ing badass' when it does come out.
