CD Projekt Red repeats: We are not downgrading The Witcher 3

As CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt nears its release date, the focus on the game and its resolution is growing. The buildup of interest in the game is only natural as the hype builds.

In early December we were notified that The Witcher 3 had been delayed from March to May. The reason behind the delay was to remove bugs and work on optimizing the game. A good reason for a game's delay, especially a game as big as The Witcher 3.

In October CD Projekt RED released some screenshots of their work-in-progress. The screenshots weren't met with hype, but with scrutiny instead. The community complained of jagged edges on fur, that PR is touting “an overblown vision of a game that doesn’t exist.” CD Projekt RED responded to these comments by saying that the game was still in production and that "There will be no [graphical] downgrade."

Today, the question of The Witcher 3's resolution is still hot on people's minds. The Greek news site Enternity attended a Witcher 3 event with CD Projekt RED where they had the chance to speak with the Witcher 3's Art Producer Michal Stec. The question of downgrades, resolution and optimization was raised, Stec's response echoed a previous statement from CD Projekt RED.

“No…We are not downgrading it. We are optimizing the game but in a way that doesn’t affect the visuals. So there is a lot of work for us, and this is also one of the reasons why we delayed the game. Because we still have to optimize it to get the best performance for you guys as possible.”

Stec's response is oddly similar to "There will be no [graphical] downgrade,"; maybe it's because that's the first statement he makes. Maybe we should stop asking.

The Witcher 3 is set to on May 19. 2015 on PC (check out the PC system requirements), PS4, and Xbox One.
