The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has revealed the name of its next game: Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red unveiled the game earlier this year and promised more information in mid-October. The company announced new details over a GOG.com livestream yesterday.
Based on the Cyberpunk 2020 pen-and-paper role-playing game, the upcoming video game is set in Night City and its surroundings. Players can also visit locations from the tabletop game: a combat zone run by gangs, the Afterlife joint, and the Forlorn Hope, among others.
Cyberpunk 2077 features a nonlinear story and a sandbox style, which allows "action and diversity in gameplay." CD Projekt Red is designing the game true to the cyberpunk genre — so expect advanced technologies, steel weaponry, and gadgets.
The developer has set expectations high: Its last game, The Witcher 2, amassed over 50 awards and acknowledgments from the industry. As of July, the entire franchise sold more than 4 million copies across PC, Mac, and Xbox 360.
