Chun-Li joins cast of Joss Whedon’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’

We already knew that Clark Gregg would be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson in the ABC TV show S.H.I.E.L.D. from Joss Whedon. We also got character descriptions at the beginning of the month, outlying what could be possible characters in the show.

Now, Deadline is reporting that actress Ming-Na Wen has joined the show as one of the leads, Agent Melinda May. The character was originally named Agent Althea Rice, aka The Cavalry. Agent Melinda May is soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences. She is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can — and has — gone beyond the call of duty.

Ming-Na Wen has had roles on Syfy's Eureka and Stargate Universe, but she is also well-known for her role in ER and as Chun-Li in the 1994 Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
