The 3D-animated Angry Birds movie is still far off. It's not due in theaters until July 1, 2016. But in case you're curious, Jon Vitti — a comedy writer whose credits include The Simpsons, King of the Hill, The Office, and more — is working on the screenplay, announced game developer Rovio Entertainment today.
In addition, John Cohen (Despicable Me) and David Maisel (Iron Man) are producing for Sony Pictures. Catherine Winder, who oversaw the production of the original Ice Age film, is joining them.
This won't be the game's first foray into multimedia. Angry Birds Toons is a recent 52-episode animated cartoon series viewable on television networks worldwide and through updates to the game. It achieved over 150 million hits from the apps alone in the first six weeks of release in March.
Angry Birds is mega-successful, but will that popularity last well into 2016, when the movie releases?
