Counter-Strike goes F2P and enters the Danger Zone of Battle Royale

In a total surprise to its audience, Valve has not only released a brand-new game mode for their popular competitive multiplayer FPS Counter-Strike: Global Offensive but also made CS:GO available to everyone as a free-to-play game. Danger Zone is the new battle royale mode which you can try out now!

Over the past two years, battle royale has long evolved from a niche PC mod into arguably the most popular game type at the moment. Plenty dedicated battle royale games have tried their luck at it and more and more traditional game franchises are implementing their own take on the last-man-standing experience.

The latest in the series of established games introducing battle royale to their arsenal is none other than Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The massively skill-based first-person shooter is now offering a battle royale game mode in Danger Zone. Up to 18 players can battle it out on a new map Blacksite, specifically designed for Danger Zone.

The fresh mix of CS:GO’s fast and brutal gunplay meet the strategic nature of a larger map and the ever-increasing tension of unavoidable confrontation. No matter what your opinion on battle royale may be, Danger Zone is a nice new addition to the already tried-and-true formula of Counter-Strike.

As if this wasn’t a huge news already, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive also is now a free-to-play title, which is not only bringing a healthy amount of active players into Danger Zone but the entire game suit as a whole.

Not everyone is happy with the new direction Valve is taking their cult multiplayer-shooter however. After the unveiling of Danger Zone and CS:GO going free-to-play, a massive wave of negative user reviews hit the game’s Steam page. The majority of complaints are about an influx of hackers due to the dissaperance of an initial paywall, but also grievances towards Valve of not adressing long-standing community issues and instead gunning for the lucrative battle royale F2P business.

You can make your own opinion by trying out CS:GO and Danger Zone right now. Head on over to the game’s Steam page and give it a try!
