Previous rumors that Sony had repurchased the Crash Bandicoot intellectual property seem to be unfounded.
“Activision owns Crash Bandicoot, and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life,” a representative from current IP holder Activision told Game Informer.
When the Crash Bandicoot website disappeared last week, fans were hopeful that a change of ownership had taken place — especially when they discovered what appeared to be an Easter egg in the PlayStation 4 trailer.
Returning the former PlayStation mascot to its original creator, Naughty Dog, would be a brilliant move as the developer makes games (like Uncharted and The Last of Us) exclusively for Sony.
Looks like we'll just have to keep hoping.
Activision took over publishing duties of the series, which has seen 18 games across various platforms, including mobile, in 2008.
