Creative Assembly unveils new free-to-play game, Total War: ARENA

Creative Assembly is introducing a new spin-off to their traditional Total War series. Announced at GDC today, Total War: ARENA will be the UK's studio first title in the F2P model.

ARENA's focus will be entirely on online multiplayer, mixing elements of RTS and MOBA gameplay. In the game, you'll play as history's greatest commanders, leading their armies in massive team-based battles.

Creative Assembly is already looking for players to help "craft their vision of a detailed, deep, multiplayer tactical experience." You can sign up to receive details regarding the forthcoming Closed Beta Tests on the official website.

Creative Assembly is also working on Total War: ROME 2, a sequel to SEGA's multi award-winning Total War series. At this point it is unclear how ARENA will affect the release of ROME 2, if at all. Nor do we know if the two games will be tied in any way.
