Dark Souls 3 is not being developed by the Bloodborne team

Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that his role as director for the PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne overlapped by about a year with the development of the newest game in the Souls franchise, Dark Souls 3. Miyazaki clarified that he was the only one to switch from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 3, besides a few visual designers.

Further information on who will be working with Miyazaki on Dark Souls 3 has been detailed by Bandai Namco producer Atsuo  Yoshimura. It turns out that Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor director Isamu Okano and Dark Souls 2's director Yui Tanimura will be aiding Miyazaki with the development of Dark Souls 3.

Okao will be acting as co-director and Tanimura will be a part of the team, but will not be assuming a director role.

"Miyazaki-san is taking lead on the overall production, the basic game features, direction, as well as the visual design direction," Yoshimura explained. "Okano-san is basically handling the mass production part as well as the human resource control. The best way to explain how Okano-san and Miyazaki-san are working together is that Okano-san is basically supporting Miyazaki-san's direction."

With the one year development overlap for Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, it would appear as though the Dark Souls 2 team will be working on the third installment. The development team from the original Dark Souls worked on Bloodborne and only the visual artists played a double role.

Dark Souls 3 releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC in early 2016.
