The live-action representations of DC Comic's villain the Joker have been on the opposite sides of the spectrum; one was semi-realistic and the other was more similar to the comics. Somewhere between Heath Ledger's Joker and Jack Nicholson's Joker, lies Jared Leto's Joker.
Film director David Ayer has been hard at work on his upcoming film Suicide Squad. That also includes teasing us incessantly with looks at the supervillains from the film. So far, the teasing has been all about Jared Leto and the Joker.
Ayer has given us our first official look at Leto as the Joker and he looks like a punked out version of DC's villain:

In the comics the Joker is pretty scary, Ledger's Joker oozed the dark and creepy side through his acting – but he didn't have the surreal scariness that the comic version had. Leto's version has the surreal aspect, but we have no idea how he will play out.
All I know is, I can't imagine the Joker sitting down to get tattoos.
