David Tennant joining Marvel’s Jessica Jones Netflix series

Netflix has a barrage of Marvel shows coming soon — Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders. Another Netflix-exclusive Marvel property — and one that's most different from the others because it has a female lead — is Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones will be played by Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23). Jessica Jones is a character that's a former superhero, but retires because she suffers from PTSD. She becomes a private investigator to help other people and super heroes.

Now the casting for the main villain has been announced. Former Dr. Who star David Tennant will be joining the cast as main villain Zebediah Kilgrave (a.k.a. Purple Man), but it isn't known how many episodes he will appear in.

Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix this year, 2015, as a 13-episode series. Luke Cage and Iron Fist follow in 2016, with The Defenders coming in 2017. Daredevil, on the other hand, starts April 10, 2015. And don't forget that Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015
