In an effort to bring the PvE-part of Dead Island: Epidemic "to the next level," developer Stunlock Studios is working on a new mode for the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena). It's called Crossroads, and it's "built to incorporate variation, with increased replayability and challenges that are tailored towards your in-game skill level."
"Our goal with Crossroads was to enrichen the PvE experience in DIE. A lot of people enjoyed fighting against the zombies in our current PvE-modes, more than what we had expected. Instead of creating more Horde maps however, we wanted to create something that would not feel too repetitive after a couple of playthroughs," Stunlock explained. "Something that offered more variation, higher replayability and that always offered a challenge, regardless of skill level.
"At the same time we wanted to create a game mode that taught the mechanics used in Scavenger, but also was a legitimate and fun experience on its own. We wanted both beginners and veterans to have access to a mode where they could have a lot of fun while at the same time unifying the game experience across both PVE and PvP. The solution was Crossroads."
So what do you do in Crossroads?
According to Stunlock, you'll find yourself visiting a caravan known as Crossroads. The caravan stops every morning, does its business, and moves elsewhere at night. Throughout the day, various events will occur in the surrounding areas of Crossroads, "like supply points being sighted or large zombies roaming around." All of these can yield supplies. Those part of the caravan will inform you of these events, allowing you to lay waste to the zombie horde and claim supplies. So basically, you get different missions, complete them, and return to the caravan with as many supplies as you can.
Missions in Crossroads will increase in difficulty the better you perform. After a number of missions are completed, the day will end and Crossroads will move on. The next time you visit, you'll be in a different area with new missions and challenges.
There is no release date for the Crossroads game mode yet, but next week Stunlock will share details on the mission system.
