Dead Space 3 includes micro-transactions for weapon crafting

Dead Space 3 will have micro-transactions, a first for the series, a new report from Eurogamer claims. The good news is that spending real-life cash on the game isn't a requirement, but more of an aid for players who want a quicker alternative to gathering resources necessary for crafting weapons.

Basically, in Dead Space 3, there is a weapon crafting system that requires resources or materials, like scrap parts. These materials can be picked up by you, the player, or by scavenger bots you send out. Alternatively, they can also be bought through the in-game store.

"You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace," Dead Space 3 associate producer Yara Khoury explained to Eurogamer. "So you don't have to spend [real world] dollars."

Detailed pricing wasn't revealed, but Khoury did hint of several different packs of in-game currency being offered. She was also sure to clarify that you will not be able to boost your way to the best weapons from the start of the game.

"There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game. Unless you're playing through it again [on New Game Plus]."

As previously mentioned, this is the first game in the Dead Space series to include micro-transactions; although, EA had a similar system in place for Mass Effect 3. In that game, also published by EA, you could purchase reinforcement packs for the game's multiplayer portion through an in-game store.
