'Deadpool' producer, Simon Kinberg, says the sequel will spend a lot of time poking fun at superhero movie sequels.
This past February marked a milestone in the comic book movie adaptaion genre when 'Deadpool' not only breached expectations from a cinematic standpoint, but also broke records for the highest grossing rated R comedy of all time (stealing the crown from 'The Hangover'), but also the highest grossing 'X-Men'-based movie to date. With so much hype built around the project, it goes without saying that the sequel might even break its predecessors records to boot.
With the post-credits scene announcing that fan favorite mutant, Cable, would be featured, speculation for the story has been circulating for a while now. While nothing official has been announced yet, producer Simon Kinberg has just assured fans that the movie won't stray from the "dead-pan", self-referential humor the character is synonymous with:
“I think 'Deadpool 2' will comment on anything that’s happening in movies today especially in superhero movies. The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we’ll play around with.”
Now that Warner Bros. has finally been able to step up to Marvel Studios with their extensive line-up of new and upcoming DC Extended Universe content like 'Batman v Superman', 'Suicide Squad', 'Wonder Woman', 'Justice League', etc., there appears to be no shortage of material with which to parody.
