Decode those Legendary Engrams because Destiny’s loot patch hits this week

Hey Guardians, this just a quick post reminding you to decode your Legendary Engrams ahead of the new patch that Bungie will release for Destiny this week. Although Bungie hasn't said exactly when the patch will go live, Destiny tends to be updated on Tuesdays.

First announced last week, patch 1.0.2 will bring some much needed changes to the overall loot experience in Destiny. On the most basic level, these changes will guarantee that Engrams will always decode into items at or above the quality of Engram. In other words, Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics — so no more Cryptarch trolling. Additionally, Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams for Vanguard, daily heroics, and weekly heroics.

So why the reminder? Because as a result of the changes this new patch brings, all of the Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live. This is probably to prevent players from farming Legendary Engrams and holding on to them so that when the patch hits they are guaranteed Legendary or better quality items. At least Bungie made light of the horrible loot situation, basically saying the Cryptarch was going to turn them blue anyway.
