At the end of April, after countless rumors of the game's delay, Dead Island 2 was officially delayed until 2016. The delay came from the game being unable to hit goals that were set in place by the development team.
The studio developing Dead Island 2, Yager, revealed that they would be focusing purely on the game's development in order to achieve their goals. Based purely off of speculation, it seems as though Yager did not hit their goals.
Publisher Deep Silver has announced that their partnership with Yager has come to an end, but will continue working to bring Dead Island 2 to life.
With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.
After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.
The reasoning behind the split was not revealed, but we should be hearing information on what will happen with Dead Island 2 once the dust settles.
