Destiny 2 to bring old and “millions of new fans” to the franchise

2017 release is still coming!

According to an Activision executive, Destiny 2 will bring "millions of new fans" to the series, as well as get Destiny players to return. While we haven't heard much on Destiny 2 from Activision or Bungie, they seem pretty confident in the game they will be releasing next year.

Activision's COO and CFO both spoke on the game at two points during the most recent earnings conference call. One executive spoke on what they expect from Destiny and the other that the game was still on track for a 2017 release.

“Activision and our talented partners at Bungie are hard at work on a sequel to Destiny which should energize both Destiny’s passionate fan base and bring millions of new fans to the franchise next year”, said COO Thomas Tippl.

“We’re on track and excited about what we think is going to be an awesome sequel for Destiny in 2017. No announcements today on timing just yet, but what I will say is that the sequel is designed to excite both our highly engaged current players, but also to broaden the appeal even further, bringing in new fans and bringing back old fans as well. That’s our primary focus right now”, said CFO Dennis Durkin.

We already know that a majority of Bungie's developers have already moved on to Destiny 2, but Bungie has been running a pretty type ship – even with so many people on the project. Rumors have been getting around, though.

One rumor claimed that Bungie had completely overhauled the game during development and another rumor claimed that Destiny 2 would make you abandon your Guardians.
