Destiny celebrates Halloween with ‘Festival of the Lost’

"Wear masks, collect candy, and laugh in the face of death."

Last year, Guardians celebrated Halloween in Destiny with Jackolytes. These simple consumables, when used placed a giant Acolyte-style pumpkin on you rhead for 30 minutes. That's about as far as the festivities went.

Like everything else in Destiny with Year Two, Bungie is going even bigger with Halloween this year. As of today, residents in the Tower are celebrating The Festival of the Lost. And with this celebration comes a pretty in-depth event in which you "wear masks, collect candy, and laugh in the face of death."

So the event begins with Eva Levante in the Tower. She gives you a quest to collect candy from various NPCs around the Tower. Once you complete this quest, you'll rewarded with a mask and three additional questlines:

Face Off!: Earn Crucible kills while wearing a mask

  • Crucible Kills as an Engram (30 kills)
  • Crucible Sword Kills as Crota (5 kills)

Mask Task: Complete Public Events, collect engrams, and fall off the Tower while wearing masks.

  • Complete Public Events Gold Medals as Tiger (3)
  • Loot Engrams as Cryptarch (10)
  • "Trip" off Tower as Atheon

Team Effort: Complete a Heroic Strike and kill a Court of Oryx member summonded by a Stolen Rune while masked.

  • Court of Oryx as Traveler
  • Heroic Strike as Speaker

Completing these quests will reward you with "Gifts of the Lost," a goodie bag containing a rare (blue) mask and either a Jackolyte or Vile.

In addition to the quests, the newly arrived Eververse Trading Co. (Destiny's microtransaction system) is also selling Treasure of the Lost mystery bags. These contain a random legendary mask and any of the following: Paper Glue, Jackolyte, Flight of Shadows, Skull Mask, Random Festival Candy, Paper Scraps. One bag sells for 200 Silver, three bags for 500 Silver, and 6 bags for 900 Silver.

There are also three new emote dance moves available:

Guardians are still solving the mysteries of the events, but it seems dismantling legendary (purple) masks will reward you with rare glue that can be used to "upgrade" a different rare (blue) mask. Currently, a rare mask expires at the end of the festival. But you can upgrade these to legendary masks which you can retain after the event ends.

If you don't have the correct mask to complete a quest, you must farm candy from patrols and turn them in to Eva and hope she rewards you with one of the correct masks.
