Destiny’s first event, Salvage, now live as a Crucible playlist

Destiny's first in-game event is officially live. It comes in the form of a new Crucible Playlist, "Salvage" is a new PvP objective mode where you'll fight to claim and salvage relics on small to medium sized maps built for 3v3 combat.

"Secure the relics. Disrupt enemy probes. Destroy the opposition," the description reads. Rewards for participating in this weekend event include Crucible gear, Crucible marks, and Crucible reputation. It'll be available to play through Sunday, September 14.

Salvage is just the start of Bungie's long-term plans for Destiny, which the developer claims has been built to last for at least the next 10 years. Yesterday, Bungie outlined a few other events planned over the next few weeks including a new level 26 raid, two additional events for September, and one event coming in October.

"These are only some of the surprises we have planned for you," Bungie promised. "Very soon, strange characters will arrive in the Tower with special offerings in hand."

"Public Events will erupt from the skies over your favorite destinations with greater frequency. And, Bungie will enter the fray with some bounties of our own for you to claim – if you can."
