One of the big reveals during Bungie's livestream session yesterday was a brand new weapon type coming to Destiny with the House of Wolves expansion — the "sidearm."
It was talked about for just a brief moment during the steam, but according to Bungie, sidearms will act as a secondary weapon with a very high rate of fire and added elemental damage.
As you can see from the image below, the Vestian Dynasty sidearm also has high stability and fast reload stats. Bungie wouldn't talk too much about it, but did say "it kills bad guys" and has a "special perk" against Fallen.
The addition of sidearms with House of Wolves is just a small feature in what will be a jam-packed expansion filled with all sorts of new content, including the Trials of Osiris PvP activity and the Prison of Elders co-op arena which was detailed in length yesterday.
Destiny Expansion II: House of Wolves will be available on Tuesday, May 19th. It is the second of two planned expansions for Destiny, and is included as part of the Destiny Expansion Pass which is priced at $34.99. Alternatively, the expansion can be purchased individually for $19.99. Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, released in December of last year.
