Can't log on to Destiny? You're not the only one. Yesterday, developer Bungie announced that the game's servers would be taken offline for several hours today for planned maintenance that help prepare the game for "the arrival of a series of updates planned for the next few weeks."
Maintenance is expected to be completed by, or shortly after, Noon Pacific time, "if all goes according to plan." Of course, we all know how this sort of thing goes; I wouldn't expect servers to be up immediately following maintenance.
The good news is, the updates being made are on Bungie's side, meaning you won't need to download or install a new batch of content. The update merely paves the way for future progress. In case you missed it, a good portion of the last Weekly Update was dedicated to an outline of future changes planned for Destiny, including new shaders, alternative ways to farm upgrade materials and more. There's also "The Dark Below" expansion, which is set to arrive on December 9, and improvements to the Iron Banner still planned.
"We know you’re anxiously waiting for all the good stuff we promised. This is the beginning of that work," Bungie said. We'll update you once the maintenance is complete and the servers are back up.
