Destiny servers go down ahead of The Dark Below launch

Just hours ahead of the launch of Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, it appears the game's servers are experiencing problems.

Bungie has acknowledged the issue, informing players "We are actively investigating issues impacting Destiny. Until resolved various Destiny services may experience disruptions."

It's unclear exactly what the problem is, but it doesn't appear to be related to Lizard Squad, the hacker group notorious for launching DDoS attacks on games. A number of users, however, have reported issues of servers being down or getting kicked from the game.

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below is set to go live today, scheduled to become available for download at 1:00am Pacific (4:00am Eastern); it's unclear if these service disruptions will impact its release.
