Developer pulls FNaF World from Steam over mixed reviews

The latest edition to the Five Nights at Freddy's universe has been removed from Steam, less than a week after its release. On January 21st, developer Scott Cawthon released his turn-based RPG FNaF World on Steam, the following day, Cawthon released a statement of apology for the game's condition.

Cawthon admitted that he felt as though he had rushed the release of FNaF World and that the game should have launched with a number of features that weren't implemented. He vowed to add features to the game and "make it right."

Apparently, Cawthon's version of making it right for the Steam community that he has "enjoyed and respected" was to remove the game from Steam and make it fully refundable, regardless of the amount of time players have put into the game. FNaF World demo on GameJolt will be replaced with the full game and will always be free from here on out.

Hi everyone, I wanted to make a post about the fate of FNaF World. Even though the game had a "Very Positive" rating with 87%, I was not satisfied with the reviews and ratings it was getting.

For that reason, I've decided to remove the game from Steam. I've also asked Valve to make it so that the game can be refunded regardless of the amount of the time it has been owned, meaning that anyone can get a refund at any time. It may take them a while to set that up, but it will be in place soon.

I'm still going to work on FNaF World and polish it up. I'm busy creating a fully 3D overworld for the game. When I'm ready to update the game, I will replace the demo currently on GameJolt with the full game. From this point forward, the game will always be free.

I appreciate your support, and I encourage you all to refund your Steam game (even if you enjoyed the game), and download the new version when it becomes available on GameJolt. 🙂

The Steam community has offered Cawthon praise for his decision to pull the game, offer a full refund, make the game free and fix it. Some of the community has even gone as far as saying that they intend on keeping FNaF World, so Cawthon could keep the money he worked for.

It's apparent that Cawthon is very upset with the state of the game, hopefully he finds time to fix it and doesn't focus on the death threat comments.
