Diablo 3 is a year old — see how Blizzard is celebrating

Diablo 3 didn't quite meet expectations when it launched a year ago to server troubles caused by its always-online requirement. The real-money and gold auction houses have proven a controversial and ongoing problem as well.

But the action-role-playing game still managed to hook 10 million players, at least for the months after launch. Now Diablo 3 is transitioning onto PlayStation 3 and PS4.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the game, Blizzard is giving away free buffs — 25 percent boost to Magic Find and +EXP stats — from now until Tuesday, May 21 as a thank-you for players' continued support.

"The buff is only available while logged in to the game, but it will apply to all characters as well as stack with other similar bonuses — the +EXP bonus will stack multiplicatively, and the Magic Find bonus will stack above the 300 percent cap!" wrote community manager "Lylirra" on Battle.net.

If you skipped out on the game, you can buy it for $20 off — or $39.99, compared to the full $59.99 — for a limited time.
