Diablo 3 sales top 20 million ahead of PS4 and Xbox One release

Diablo 3 has sold over 20 million copies across all platforms since its launch in May 2012, Blizzard revealed during today's financial earnings report for the second quarter of 2014. In terms of dollars, it is the number one PC game in both North America and Europe as of June 30.

Blizzard's action-RPG debuted on PC and Mac and then came to Xbox 360 and PS3 a year later, with a much-welcomed couch co-op feature. Activision Blizzard has plans to re-release the game for Xbox and PlayStation platforms as the rebranded Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition. This version will contain the base Diablo 3 game along with the Reaper of Souls expansion, which has been available on PC since March 25, 2014.

The Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will also mark the next-gen debut of the action-RPG. It'll release for PS4 and Xbox One on August 19. It'll also be available on Xbox 360 and PS3.

In some not so good news, Activision also reported a drop in subscribers for Blizzard's long-standing MMO World of Warcraft.
