Digital Foundry Compares Destiny 2 on PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One

A technical breakdown of Destiny 2 has been released by famous YouTube channel, Digital Foundry. They usually compare different versions of the same game to determine the definitive version of the title. This time, they compared Destiny 2 against its different versions on PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One.

With the line-up in this analysis, it should be pretty obvious that the PS4 Pro is the winner as far as consoles go, with 1080p or 4K resolution and better texture filtering. It also has better shadow rendering, however in their words, "In general, the visual set-up is almost identical between the three, but as one of the more demanding settings, Pro's shadow upgrades are a nice boost."

Conversely, Destiny 2 on the regular PS4 runs at 1080p and the Xbox One version uses a dynamic resolution system that changes based on the current load required. It runs anywhere from 1344×1080 to 1920×1080. Digital Foundry claims that "the level of detail, texture quality, and effects-work are much the same" across PS4 and Xbox One.

"The chief advantage on a PS4 Pro though really is in that bump to 4K with checkerboarding, but we're not being short-changed in the visual department. There's a sense only PC will show us just how far Destiny 2 can be pushed."

Frame rate testing came pretty straight forward with Destiny 2. It was a steady 30fps across the board. On PC, naturally, the frame rates are uncapped. But their analysis focused only on the console versions.

Although the frame rates are confirmed, the PC version of Destiny 2 does not release until October 24. For a full analysis beyond the video above, check out Digital Foundry's full piece here.
