Early reviews of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have painted the film in a pretty bad light. The current Rotten Tomatoes score for the film is sitting at a low 33% with an average rating of 5.2/10. While critics have begun to dismantle the film one CGI scene at a time, fans have enjoyed the film for the most part.
Director Zack Snyder didn't attack critics for their point of view like the Gods of Egypt director did after his film was slammed with horrible reviews. Instead, Snyder offered that his film was modeled more after the comics than anything else.
"I'm a comic book guy and I made the movie as much as I can on that aesthetic and so i don't know how else to do it 100%, so it is what it is," Snyder told Yahoo!.
Superman actor Henry Cavill explained the critics weren't the individuals that the film was made for, it was created with the fans in mind.
“The interesting thing is that we get the critics who have their personal opinions,” said Cavill. “And the thing about personal opinions is that they always come from a place. And there’s a preconceived idea which you have to get past a critic before you start writing your article or your review, and that affects everything.”
“What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says,” explained the Superman actor, “Because they’re the ones who are buying tickets, they’re the ones who want to see more of this kind of story or not and so the audience’s voice is loudest and after this weekend the audience, at least partly, will have spoken.”
Batman actor Ben Affleck sat silently while Cavill relayed his thoughts on the subject and only offered an "I agree" when asked to comment after the Superman actor had completed his response.
