Dishonored’s new story-based DLC ‘The Knife of Dunwall’ announced, lets you play as Daud

As expected, Dishonored will be receiving a new story-driven add-on, though it's not what we previously thought. In the new DLC, titled The Knife of Dunwall, you won't actually be playing as the game's protagonist, Corvo. Rather, you'll play as Daud, the legendary assassin whose actions kick off the game's plot.

The Knife of Dunwall takes you "back to that fateful moment" and lets you control Daud. Does that mean you'll *spoiler* be the one to assassinate the Empress? If so, that would be pretty freaking cool. The idea of playing as the assassin whose actions are responsible for the plot of Dishonored is a really clever concept for DLC.

While playing as Daud you'll have full range of new powers, weapons, and gadgets.

Call upon the Whalers to assist in combat with ‘Summon Assassin’, track down hidden Runes and Bone Charms with ‘Void Gaze’ and learn to use new variations to powers, including ‘Blink’. To aid in your dangerous exploits your customized arsenal of weapons and gadgets will include Chokedust to daze your enemies, whale oil powered Stun Mines to shock your targets, and a concealed Wristbow to launch sleep darts and explosive bolts.

Throughout the add-on you'll explore more of Dunwall, from the Legal District to the Rothwild Slaughterhouse, a steaming factory filled with whale carcasses. You'll even revisit the decaying Flooded District as you witness key events from Dishonored through the eyes of another assassin. And yes, you will experience the "fateful moment that sets off Corvo's journey."

Like Dishonored, you'll have decisions to make and how you approach each mission will ultimately determine your redemption or your turn towards darkness. In this chapter, you'll discover the mystery behind Delilah.

The Knife of Dunwall will be available on April 16th on PlayStation 3 and Steam ($9.99), as well as on Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft points. This won't be the last of Dishonored's story-based DLC, either. Bethesda has already teased that Daud's story will conclude in the upcoming final add-on, The Brigmore Witches.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and praise Bethesda and developer Arkane Studios for this newly announced DLC. Though I haven't yet played it, it's nice to see a developer really take the time to think about a clever, and worthy, add-on. If only we could have more of this type of DLC and less of the "more new skins!" — I'm sure we'd all have a different opinion of DLC if that were the case.
