Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King remakes revealed

Disney has unveiled a remastered package containing two classic platformers. With the Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King, fans of classic gaming will get not only these two games but multiple retro console variants in one neat package. Check out the reveal trailer here!

If you grew up during the 1990s, chances are pretty good that The Lion King and Aladdin hold a special place in your heart. These two cult Disney movies influenced kids of that era like few other movies. Naturally, Disney followed up the movies’ success with equally entertaining TV shows and video game adaptations. Sadly, these get released and delisted fairly regularly due to licensing.

As IGN reports, the great thing about today’s newly announced Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King collection is that you won’t have to do with one retro console version but instead get seven distinct versions. Here are the versions available:

  • Disney’s Aladdin: Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Final Cut, Trade Show Demo
  • The Lion King: Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Game Boy

As you can see, there’s plenty of content to unpack here. Especially considering that unlike these days, back in the 16-Bit era, different ports regularly played very different and often were simply entirely different games altogether. One notable omission is the Super Nintendo version of Disney’s Aladdin which might be due to licensing issues.

Nonetheless, Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King looks to become quite a great addition for fans of retro gaming or gamers who want to bask in nostalgia. This collection is headed for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on October 29th, 2019.

It’s no wonder that Disney is pushing especially these two retro games out of their treasure trove. Both franchises received massively popular live-action movie adaptions recently, with each making more than $1 Billion at the box office. Who knows, with this recent resurgence of popularity, Disney might create new games as well.
