Star Wars has a very vast universe filled with thousands of years of stories. Sadly, we’ve only seen a very small segment of those stories on the silver screen. We’ve had countless games, books, and shows but fans are really craving a new cast of characters and time period for the beloved sci-fi series.
As Disney brings the Skywalker saga to a close this year with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the entertainment giant is planning out their next moves for the franchise. While they already have various scripts in development and two trilogies slated for the next decade, they’re thinking of adding a third trilogy into the mix. A trilogy of trilogies!
Buzzfeed is reporting that several sources have indicated a script for a film adaptation of the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is being written. Disney has tapped writer Laeta Kalogridis to pen the script for the first film and will seemingly play it by ear depending on the quality of the story.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased something for Knights of the Old Republic back in April at Star Wars Celebration suggesting something was in the works. “Yes, we are developing something to look at,” said Kennedy. “Right now, I have no idea where things might fall.”
Kalogridis is reportedly close to finishing the script for the first film but again, this doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made or at least made any time soon.
Knights of the Republic is not only one of the most beloved Star Wars games but one of the most acclaimed RPGs ever made. Set 4,000 years before A New Hope, players create their own character and navigate a story of mystery, light and darkness, and a much more. Using the rich world George Lucas created, Bioware was able to craft something that could otherwise be seen as a dream Star Wars game.
Fans have been dying for either a film adaptation or a third entry in the game series for years but to no avail.
Star Wars will take a brief film hiatus after this year and will return in 2022 with an untitled movie. The series will then continue to release every other year just before Christmas.
