Disney’s ‘Star Wars Land’ starting to take shape?

January 2016 will mark the arrival of Disney's largest expansion project to-date as Star Wars land looks to be coming to fruition, although many features are closing as a result.

The Disney Park in Anaheim has announced the closure of several eateries and up to ten of its attractions after the turn of the New Year, with a wave of new Star Wars features coming into the fold.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has sparked massive fanfare for the franchise that Disney bought for a reported $4.05bn back in 2012, and they're seemingly looking to capitalize accordingly.

Disney's first instalment, directed by J.J. Abrams, has become the fastest ever film to gross $1bn and it's fair to say these new Star Wars land attractions have the potential to reflect the success of Universal's Harry Potter theme park.

The following have been confirmed as concrete closures, coming into effect on January 10th:

  • Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue
  • Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland
  • Big Thunder Jamboree
  • Big Thunder Petting Zoo

Also, the following attractions will also be closing on a temporary basis:

  • Fantasmic
  • The Mark Twain Riverboat
  • The Sailing Ship Columbia
  • Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes
  • The Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
  • The Disneyland Railroad

Many theme park goers were expecting discounts while the parks are under construction, however Disney have reportedly rejected this idea.

Currently there are other Star Wars attractions available, such as Hyperspace Mountain and for children, Jedi training – which fans can enjoy while this large-scaled construction project takes place.
