Divinity: Original Sin 2 skyrockets to almost 500K units sold, no console version in sight…yet

Divinity: Original Sin 2 has finally left Early Access, releasing in full just four short days ago. As reported by Eurogamer, developer Larian Studios has seen a pretty drastic uptick in sales, bringing the grand total "close to" 500K units. According to Studio owner, Swen Vincke, the game has sold about 180,000 units in just the last four days, which has resulted in a Steam record for most concurrent players in a CRPG.

Vincke was elated by the game's success, despite the added pressure on the studio's servers, which have struggled to manage such a high player influx.

"It is fantastic but it is also way beyond what we expected. We're close to hitting 500K units sold which is a number I believe took us two or three months with Divinity: Original Sin 1."

As far as the servers go, "We should have them up and running again soon," said Vincke.

Given the early success of the game and the fact that the first game made it to consoles, it's a safe assumption that Divinity: Original Sin 2 will make its way to at least PS4 and Xbox One at some point. Vincke however, isn't saying as much.

"As for the console versions, we're now focused on delivering our first patch for the PC version, something that is scheduled for this week," he said.

"Lots of players means lots of support issues coming in and we're trying to service them as fast as we can. After that, it'll be a long well-deserved break for the team and then we'll boot up our machines again to work on the next things."

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is available now on PC.
