Doctors experiment on Luigi in this TV spot for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the next entry in the role-playing series of Mario Bros. games, is due on August 4 on 3DS. Nintendo advertised the game in a recent U.S. TV spot that shows, well, doctors dissecting the dreams of poor Luigi and even pulling on his mustache during an operation.

That's just not good medicine.

Dream Team takes players inside the dreams of Luigi, where they can interact with him from the real world by messing with his face. Super Mario 64, anyone?

This week's report from Media Create, a Japanese company that analyzes digital entertainment data, shows that the game has topped the software charts in Japan with nearly 100,000 copies sold. It released there on July 18 and just outmatched debut sales for Pikmin 3, which released a week before Mario & Luigi.
